HOW WAS YOUR STAY AT THE 5★ HOTEL CA’SAGREDO, VENICE?

We stayed for two nights and loved every moment! Our trip began with a water taxi from the airport, delivering us directly to the hotel’s pier on the Grand Canal—a truly unforgettable arrival. From the moment we stepped into this stunning grand palace, we were in awe. A marble staircase leads to an impressive hall, surrounded by beautifully painted rooms, including the charming music room. Our room was incredibly comfortable, and while the breakfast wasn’t as extensive as in some hotels, it was perfectly satisfying for us. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful.

WHAT WAS YOUR HIGHLIGHT OF YOUR STAY IN VENICE?

I absolutely loved the water taxi rides! Stepping out of the airport and onto a speedboat that whisks you into the city was such a thrill. While the boat slows down once you reach the city, the initial approach is fast and incredibly exciting—just be prepared! As for sights, don’t miss Burano! It’s a vibrant little gem that’s definitely worth a visit.

FAVOURITE FOOD FROM YOUR STAY IN VENICE?

We visited a small restaurant, Hostaria Bacanera, recommended by one of the hotel receptionists. It was conveniently close to the hotel and served delightful tiny fish from the lagoon, fried and paired with an orange sauce as an amuse-bouche. Absolutely delicious!

WHAT WERE YOUR FIRST IMPRESSIONS WHEN ARRIVING AT VENICE SANTA LUCIA RAILWAY STATION?

A Belmond staff member came to our hotel to escort us and handle our luggage. She was wonderful and just as excited as we were. She led us, along with another couple, into a water taxi that took us to the station. The arrival was spectacular, with fellow passengers looking incredibly glamorous as they arrived at the train station pier. Our Belmond guide shared a bit of the station’s history, and within about ten minutes, the train pulled in. There was just enough time to snap some photos with the train staff before we boarded!

HOW WOULD YOU RATE THE SERVICE ABOARD THE VENICE SIMPLON-ORIENT-EXPRESS?

The 5-star service was exactly what you’d expect, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that the staff were relatively young. Their service, while exceptional, was refreshingly unpretentious. You’ll feel completely at ease while constantly pinching yourself, wondering, “Am I really here?!”

WHAT DID YOU MOST ENJOY ABOUT THE VENICE SIMPLON-ORIENT-EXPRESS JOURNEY?

It’s the attention to detail that truly stands out. Everywhere you look, there is beauty—from the heavy crystal glasses to the exquisite woodwork and luxurious fabrics. No photo can fully capture the perfection of these details; everything is simply stunning.

WHAT WAS THE DINING EXPERIENCE LIKE ABOARD THE VENICE SIMPLON-ORIENT-EXPRESS?

The food throughout the journey was of exceptional quality and consistently well-prepared. Before we boarded, our cabin was already set with mini cakes and tea.

Throughout the trip, we enjoyed a range of meals including lunch, afternoon tea, dinner, and breakfast. Each meal offered a variety of main course options, all served with high standards by friendly staff. A selection of wines is available, and champagne is frequently offered.

BEST/STAND-OUT SERVICE YOU RECEIVED DURING THE TRIP…

I can’t single out one member of the train staff—they were all exceptional. However, I’d like to highlight the hotel staff. When our room wasn’t ready, we were relaxing in the grand hall, and they kindly brought us drinks and snacks without us even asking. They also allowed us to tour one of the historic suites, which had once been a library. The staff took the time to share insights about the city and offer recommendations on where to visit. Additionally, the hotel provides a complimentary speedboat trip to Murano and Burano. While you’ll need to arrange your own return transport, these excursions, though they include sales pitches at the glass and lace factories, are quite fascinating. We enjoyed the tours and appreciated the freedom to explore on our own afterwards.

WOULD YOU RECOMMEND THIS TRIP TO YOUR FRIENDS/FAMILY?

Absolutely! Without hesitation.

When I first called, there was no hard sell; instead, Hayley offered some excellent alternative options because she understood my hesitation about such an extravagant trip. After considering her suggestions, I was thrilled when I spoke with her again and decided to proceed. I’m so glad I did.

The company sent all the tickets and detailed instructions for every connection by post and email, and even called before the trip to ensure everything was in order.
