Austin
Almost centrally located in the state, the capital Austin is an excellent place for visitors to start their trip to Texas. "Keep Austin Weird" is the city motto, focusing on fewer big brands and more support for local businesses. In addition, you'll find a big music scene waiting for you, so you can put your dancing boots on any day of the week.
There is also plenty of natural beauty, cycling around the edge of Lady Bird Lake before sunset or getting onto the lake with the hire of a paddle board. And if it's getting into the water you are looking for, then visit one of the many wild swimming holes dotted around; at Barton Springs, there is year-round 20-degree water waiting for you to cool off in.
Dallas
Luxury hotels, fancy dining, high-end shopping, plus a buzzing art and museum scene. Dallas is loaded with exhibits, from the 6th-floor museum relating to the shooting of JFK, to the Dallas Museum of Art and sculpture garden; you'll find plenty to keep you entertained.
Loaded with over 400 parks, you'll find plenty of places for sports, strolling, and people-watching. Tex-Mex and huge portions at the many BBQ restaurants will keep you satisfied, plus you can never get bored of watching the Dallas Cowboys.
Houston
Practice saying, "Houston, we have a problem." with a visit to the NASA Space Centre, where you will find space capsules, vehicles and tram tours.
As one of Texas' most cosmopolitan cities, you'll experience a thriving cultural district full of galleries and museums. From the ArtCar Museum to the National Museum of Funeral History, Houston has a museum for every type of visitor.
San Antonio
Often referred to as 'Alamo City', you'll feel the European and Hispanic influence around the city. A must-do is to complete the two-mile riverwalk, packed with cafes, al fresco dining and boutiques.
Thrill-seekers should not miss Six Flags Fiesta theme park. Eight roller coasters await you, including the thrilling Batman The Ride and 9 splash water rides so that you can cool off from the San Antonio sunshine.
