TEMPLES & MOUNTAINS

As one of the most photographed spots on the island, the Tanah Lot temple, situated on an island near Kuta, is a must-see. One of the best times to visit is during the evenings to capture the sunset and snap the perfect picture of this gorgeous site.

Tirta Empul Temple is considered sacred by the Balinese Hindu community, one of the busiest water temples in Indonesia. Across three courtyards, the temple has several holy springs to explore. The temple and its springs are a spectacular site that dates back to 926 AD and gives an insight into the local traditions and culture.

Located on an active volcano, the Besakih Temple sits 1000 metres above sea level on the hillsides of Mount Agung. Built on 6 levels, the complex of 23 temples and pavilions, which dates back over 2,000 years, is the island's biggest religious site. The whole area is awe-inspiring; you will not want to forget your camera.

The sacred mountain (according to Hindu beliefs) of Mount Batur is an active volcano and is close to the biggest lake in Bali, Lake Batur. Sitting 1,717m above sea level, the summit can be reached in around two hours.
